Streeterville

Confined by the river on the south, the Magnificent Mile section of Michigan Avenue on the west, and Lake Michigan on the north and east, Streeterville is, in part, an upscale residential strip. An area in which past meets present, Streeterville contains multiple landmarks and designated historic districts. Prominent examples include the East Lake Shore Drive Historic District, a chain of early twentieth century luxury apartments, and the Water Tower District, which contains the only public buildings to endure the 1871 Great Chicago Fire.

Academic hubs such as Loyola University's Water Tower Campus as well as the prestigious Northwestern University's Feinberg School of Medicine, School of Law and School of Continuing Studies can be found in Streeterville. However, the area is known more for its glamour than its erudition. Streeterville houses some of Chicago's most breathtaking skyscrapers, chicest stores and most celebrated theaters. Offering hot hotels like The W, and sumptuous restaurants such as Tru, Les Nomades and Coco Pazzo Cafe, Streeterville also contains Chicago's famous Navy Pier, as well as the John Hancock Observatory, two prominent sightseeing destinations.

Although appreciated by tourists, Streeterville has plenty of full-time residents compelled by its hustle and bustle. Long-term Streeterville residents have enjoyed and benefited from the neighborhood's long-term growth and expansion. Over the last twenty years, a multitude of new buildings have reinvigorated the area. If the Chicago Spire is built, it is destined to be Chicago's tallest skyscraper.

Most Streeterville homes are set in architecturally diverse high-rises. These range from new construction buildings to pre-war structures, and highlights include the John Hancock Center and Water Tower Place. A discerning homebuyer can also find single-family homes and walk-ups scattered throughout this leading neighborhood.
