Named for a nineteenth century Potawotomi leader, over the last sixty years Sauganash has transformed from untamed prairie to serene suburb. Bordered by Devon Avenue to the north, Bryn Mawr Avenue to the south, Cicero Avenue to the west and Pulaski Avenue to the east, the neighborhood is just minutes from Interstate I-90. For those who want proximity to the big city, but a peaceful suburban-like life, Sauganash represents the perfect compromise. Situated amidst La Bagh Woods Preserve, the Forest Glen Woods Preserve and acres of bucolic private property, Sauganash has a myriad of opportunities for athletes and nature enthusiasts. The North segment of the Chicago River runs along Sauganash's southwest boundary and bike trails abound.
The neighborhood, however, offers more than just green space. There is plentiful parking, close proximity to the Metra rail, and a feeling of community evidenced by yearly block parties and an annual Fourth of July parade. In addition, stores and restaurants including Whole Foods and Frida's Mexican Cuisine cater to the urban family.

Not surprisingly, Sauganash's real estate is also family oriented; with many homes being passed from generation to generation. Because the area began to expand in the early twenties, much of the architecture reflects that period. Over the years, however, single-family houses, as well as apartments have intermingled with Georgian-style homes, English Tudors and brick bungalows. While styles may tend toward the classic, the internal layouts of many homes have made it into the 21st century, with new bathrooms and kitchens offering all the modern conveniences. For homebuyers looking for a family friendly area with a sense of history, the search ends with Sauganash.
